UPDATE: Y'all did it!!! Friday night 12/2/16 we reached our goal! After about 50 hours of shopping, we were offered a deal almost too good to be true on the perfect van. We are waiting for one grant check to arrive, and when it does we will be able to go pay cash for a brand new The Van. Thank you all so much. Seriously. Words can't express the gratitude of our team for your investment in our work, and contribution to keeping us out there helping as many folks who are living unsheltered as possible. We can't wait to show you all pictures and video as soon as we're able to make the purchase. But we had to get the word out, that Y'ALL DID IT!! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
What started in 2010 with a tiny little car out finding and serving the people fighting homelessness in Central Arkansas has grown into a fierce team of volunteers who load up a ragged old van and hit the streets almost every single night of the week. We've been fortunate enough to have a couple of old vans donated over the years, and we have essentially worked them into the ground.
Our teams, who target specific geographic areas of the metro on their assigned nights, are currently racking up well over 1,000 miles per week on our old 2002 Ford E-250. As we get into winter, those miles become more and more important. This old van is continually needing work done on it as it quickly approaches 300,000 miles. It has even left our volunteers stuck and stranded out on the streets a few times. There's no doubt its days are numbered.
Our goal is a new 1 ton raised roof long wheel base van so that we can take advantage of a full warranty and make sure that our teams are able to consistently remain focused on our mission. A larger van will allow us to keep a better supply of needed items onboard and make distribution much quicker and more efficient. We have set a goal of $35k to allow us to purchase a new van that is set up perfectly for our efforts. We also want to make sure that sales tax is covered.
We're incredibly grateful for Corey and Patrick of 100.3 The Edge and Bill Fitts Auto Sales for committing to helping us get the word out and get this goal met! We're also extremely grateful for the Heartland Foundation for kicking this campaign off with a $7,500 grant! With your help, we'll have a new van rolling just in time for winter.
Thank you all so much for the support you have shown these efforts over the years. None of it could happen without your help.
